Overview

Farmer and SonSaskatchewan is continuing Environmental Farm Planning, Group Planning and the adoption of Beneficial Management Practices that were introduced under the previous Agricultural Policy Framework.

Examples of BMPs that will be funded include relocation of livestock facilities away from stream banks and lake shores; planting forages for buffer establishment to protect stream banks and lake shores; equipment modification for improved pesticide application (Drift Reduction Technology); improved water systems and watering site management to protect high risk marginal soils, stream banks and lakeshores; water well management (decommissioning old wells, protecting existing wells from contamination).

These initiatives will be delivered by the Provincial Council of Agriculture Development and Diversification Boards for Saskatchewan (PCAB). A detailed list of BMPs is available from PCAB.

PCAB’s Advisors are available to assist producers in the awareness of BMP’s and implementation for the agricultural operations. Many BMP’s can be implemented on farm with minimal cost or time. Advisors can help producers connect to the technical resources or people who may be needed to help plan or implement a BMP. For example, an Advisor could connect a livestock producer to a technical specialist to help improve grazing systems.

The Canada-Saskatchewan Farm Stewardship Program is funded under Growing Forward by the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan and is delivered by the Provincial Council of ADD Boards.
