The Watershed Awareness Initiative (WAI) is a new initiative in 2008, it is presently funded by the federal and provincial governments and anticipated to be funded into 2013. Even though the WAI is a new program it has been influenced by other environmental initiatives such as Environmental Farm Plans (EFP’s) and Agri-Environmental Group Plans (AEGP’s) in the Province.

The WAI will build on the momentum and lessons learned from Saskatchewan AEGP’s. The primary objectives go the WAI are to increase watershed awareness as well as, the capacity of locally based groups to develop and manage new and mature AEPG’s within rural Saskatchewan.
Focus on delivery for the WAI is on increasing watershed awareness and the effectiveness of a group plan that all producers and stakeholders in a particular watershed can relate to and identify with. Producers within a watershed are the primary target, with awareness initiatives directed towards the local level by targeting groups such as ADD boards, Rural Municipalities (RM’s), existing watershed groups and smaller sub watersheds within larger watersheds.
The Watershed Awareness Initiative is funded under Growing Forward by the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan and is delivered by the Provincial Council of ADD Boards.
